Dorothy was born in Alexandria, VA in 1962. She began studying art in her mid-thirties, and received a BA in Studio Art from the College of Charleston in 2000. She began painting on glass shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2002. Painting in reverse on multiple, stacked panes of glass, using vintage women's magazines as source material, her work incorporates hand-drawn and screen-printed imagery. Dorothy's work has been shown in the SC State Museum, and the Greenville County Museum of Art.
